Toxic Smoke Effect

Tutorial in Blog, Effects, In Photos

We will apply toxic smoke to an image. I’ve tried this effect in many images, some of which ended up looking really toxic, like the one I will create today.

Open he image. It is recommendable that you apply this effect in a sunset image.

Create a ((New Layer)).

Press D to reset the color palette to black and white.

Apply ((Filter))-((Render))-((Clouds)).

Now ((Filter))-((Render))-((Difference Clouds)). Press Ctrl + F 5 times to repeat the effect.

Change the layer style to ((Overlay)).

Duplicate the layer 5 times (Ctrl + J).

Then select all the layers but the original one, right click the name of one of them, and select ((Merge Layers)) from the drop down menu.

Change the layer style to ((Overlay)).

In the following image you will see that the smoke is in front of the houses. With ((Erase Tool)), erase it so that the smoke looks like it’s over the houses.

This is the final result.
