Creating a Golf Ball in Photoshop
Tutorial in Advanced, Drawing, Effects, Goodies
This is a great tutorial where you will learn how to create a realistic golf ball.
Open a new document (800×800 and black background).
Create a ((new layer)).
Select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), draw a circular selection and fill it in with white.
Open a new document (20×20px and transparent background).
Select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)) again and draw a circle, fill it in with black.
Create a new ((Pattern)) and save it. You will use it on the first document.
Go to ((Edit))-((Define Pattern)), name it, and save it.
Go back to the first document and, standing on the white circle layer, go to the menu ((Edit))-((Fill)). Select the Pattern you created.
With Ctrl + T (((Free Transform))) rotate the circle 45º approx.
Apply ((Filter))-((Blur))-((Gaussean Blur)). ((Radius)): 2px.
Press Ctrl + Click to activate the selection of the ball.
Go to ((Filter))-((Distort))-((Spherize)). ((Amount)): 100%.
It is important that you apply this filter with the selection active.
Press D and then X so that you get black and white in the color palette.
With the selection active, select ((Gradient Tool)), ((Radial Gradient)), reduce the ((opacidad)) to 50%. Apply a gradient as shown in the image below.
Create a ((nueva capa)) and go to menu ((Layer))-((Merge Visible)). The layer will be unified.
Press Ctrl + A to select everything and then Ctrl + C to ((copiar)).
Then go to the ((Channels)) palette and create a ((nuevo canal)). Finally, Ctrl + V to paste.
Go back to the unified layers. Go to menu ((Edit))-((Fill)). Choose ((50% Grey)).
It will look like this, very ugly, isn’t it? Let’s fix it a little more.
Go to ((Filter))-((Render))-((Lighting Effects)). Observe in detail the values I used and the lights I added.
After you apply the filter ((Lighting Effects)) it will look like this.
Erase the areas that you don’t need. With ((Magic Wand Tool)) click the black area and then ((Select))-((Invert)). Press ((Supr)) to delete.
Press Ctrl + L to open the ((Levels)) window. Enlarge the following image and enter the values I used.
With the selection still active, press Ctrl + J to place the ball in a ((capa nueva)).
Double click the layer to go to ((Blending Options)).
((Inner Shadow)).
((Gradient Overlay)).
After you apply ((Layer Styles)), you can add a new different background. This is my result.
