Drawing Binoculars

We will draw fantastic binoculars using ((Pen Tool)) to create its contours and shapes, and some ((Layer Style)) to add effects, such as: ((Gradient Overlay)) and ((Stroke)).

Open a new document, 400×300px, and white background.

Create a ((New Layer)).

Select ((Pen Tool)) and create a trace as the one you see below.

Press Ctrl + Enter to transform the trace into selection.

Fill in the selection with black.

Double click the layer to apply ((Layer Styles)).

((Gradient Overlay)). Use these colors #808080, #1e1e1e, and #808080.

((Stroke)).

Accept the changes and see the results.

Create a ((New Layer)).

Select ((Line Tool)), 3px, and trace a white line as the one you see below.

Double click the line layer and press ((Layer Styles)).

((Gradient Overlay)).

Create a ((New Layer)).

With ((Pen Tool)) create a trace as the one you see below.

Double click the layer to apply ((Layer Styles)).

((Gradient Overlay)). Use these colors: #89800b, #ede99c, #89800b, and #ede99c.

Accept the changes.

Duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J) and place it above the original one.

Create a ((New Layer)).

Select ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), 10px, and draw a black rectangle over all.

Go to ((Layer Styles)) and apply ((Gradient Overlay)). Use these colors: #89800b, #ede99c, #89800b and #ede99c.

Accept the changes and see the results.

Create another ((New Layer)).

Select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)) and trace a small oval in the inferior part. Take a look at the following image.

Fill it in with black.

Double click the layer to open ((Layer Styles)) and apply ((Gradient Overlay)). I used these colors: #8f8e8e and #000000.

Accept the changes.

Create a ((New Layer)).

As you will see in the following image, I created another oval in the superior area. Apply the same gradient you used in the other shape. In order to save some time when applying ((layer Styles)), right click the layer that already has the styles and choose ((Copy Layer Styles)), then right click the name of the layer you want to apply the styles to and choose ((Paste Layer Styles)).

In a ((New Layer)) and with ((Pen Tool)), draw a grey shape as the one that appears pointed with a red arrow.

Select all the layers except for the background one and drag them into the ((Create a New Layer)) to duplicate them, as shown in the following image.

Duplicate one of the bronze shapes with ((Free Transform)) (Ctrl + T), reduce its size and arrange it to the center.

In 2 layers, draw the following shapes with ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), 10px.

Then copy and paste the bronze shapes’ ((Layer Styles)).

Create a ((New Layer)).

Select ((Pen Tool)) and draw a sape as the one you see below; it’s pointed with a red arrow.

Fill it in with black.

Apply ((Gradient Overlay)). Use these colors #89800b, #ede99c, #89800b, and #ede99c.

Create a ((New Layer)).

With ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), 10px, draw a shape as the one that appears below.

Apply ((Gradient Overlay)). Use these colors #808080,#1e1e1e, and #808080.

Create a ((New Layer)).

One of the last steps will be creating the lens connector.

Fill it in with black…

…apply this ((Gradient Overlay)).

Accept the changes.

As you can see, I duplicated the connector and placed it below the first one.
