Tutorial in Advanced, Designing, Drawing, Effects, Goodies, In Photos
This style began back in the 90s and, nowadays, it’s becoming popular again. I will show you how to create this effect by means of well known techniques and some brushes.
Open the image.
The fisrt thing you will do will be tracing the rapper’s contour using ((Pen Tool)).
Press Ctrl + Enter to activate the selection, then Ctrl + J to duplicate it in a new layer.
Eliminate the original layer.
Create a ((New Layer)) and place it underneath the rapper.
Select ((Gradient Tool)) and trace a linear gradient from bottom to top using: #400203 and #ab0304
Stand in the rapper’s layer and go to ((Filter))-((Artistic))-((Cutout)). Remember that the following values will depend on the image you are using. The size of this one is: 500×375px.
Duplicate the rapper’s layer by pressing Ctrl + J.
Double click the duplicated layer to apply ((Blending Options)).
((Color Overlay)). I used color #a15f01.
((Stroke)). The yellow I used is #f2c206.
After applying the changes, you should see this:
Create a ((New Layer)) and place it above the others.
Fill it in with white.
With ((Brush Tool)), draw a black point using the values that appear below.
Then go to ((Filter))-((Pixelate))-((Color Halftone)). Remember that the following values depend on the image you are working with.
Then go to ((Select))-((Color Range)). With ((Eyedropper Tool)), click the white area of the document.
When you save the changes, you will see that the withe area was selected. Press Delete.
This is a great effect, but you need to color it. Soc double click the layer to go to ((Blending Options)) and then select ((Color Overlay)).
Place this layer underneath the rapper’s layer.
With ((Free Transform)) (Ctrl + T), move the Halftone to the right lower part of the document. Take a look at the image below.
Press Ctrl + J to duplicate the Halftones, and place them in different parts of the document with different colors.
Choose the foreground color #db0139.
Create a ((New Layer)) and place it above the other ones.
Now select ((Shape Tool)) and choose the one that’s pointed with the red arrow in the options bar. Then apply it in the center of the document.
Change the layer style to ((Color Dodge)) and reduce the ((Fill)) to 30%.
Double click the layer to go to ((Blending Options)).
((Outer Glow)).
Finally, create a ((New Layer)) and place it underneath the rapper’s layer.
