Creating Windows Media Player Icon

This is one of the many Windows icons that I really like, that’s the reason why I want to share it with you and show you how to create it. We will use many tools for its creation, such as ((Guide Line)), ((Rectangular Marque Tool)), ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), ((Layer Styles)), ((Gradient Tool)), layers styles, and ((Shape Tool)). This is a tutorial ideal to learn and design and fantastic icon.
Open a new document, 256×256px, and white background.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), and press + Alt, to trace a circle as the one you see below.
Fill it in with black.
Press Ctrl + R to activate the rules.
Click and drag it towards the center to place the guides. Take a look at the following image.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Stand in the black circle and, with ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), trace a circle as shown in the following image.
Fill it in with any color.
Ctrl + Click to activate the selection of the red circle, then stand in the black circle layer and press delete.
Keep standing in the black circle layer.
Select ((Rectangular Marquee Tool)) and trace a selection as shown below.
Then right click and select ((Layer Via Cut)). Observe how the selection has been cut and placed in a different layer.
Repeat the previous steps with the other 3 layers. Take a look at the result in the following image.
Double click the cut circle layer and apply ((Layer Styles)).
((Bevel and Emboss)).
((Color Overlay)).
((Stroke)).
Accept the changes.
Apply these ((Layer Styles)) to the other 3 parts, modifying ((Color Overlay)):
Green: #11a30e.
Yellow: #bdc302.
Blue: #2628fe.
After applying the same ((Layer Styles)) to the other 3 layers, you will get this result.
Click the red circle layer, to which you already applied ((Layer Styles)).
((Inner Glow)).
((Color Overlay)).
((Stroke)).
Accept the changes.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Trace an interior circle, as the one you see below.
Then go to ((Select))-((Modify))-((Feather)) (5px).
Fill in the selection with color #C7FFFF.
Now select ((Erase Tool)) size: 65px, Hardness: 0%. Erase this layer layer to give a half moon shape. Take a look at the result in the following image.
Duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J).
Change the blending mode to ((Overlay)) and reduce the ((Opacity)) to 70%.
Press Ctrl + T to activate ((Free Transform)) and modify the scale. You will see the values in the folowing image.
Ctrl + Click the red area to activate the selection.
Then go to ((Select))-((Modify))-((Contract)) (1px).
Create a ((New Layer)).
Apply a radial gradient from white to transparent as shown in the image below.
Duplicate the brightness layer 3 more times and then, with ((Flip Horizontal)) and ((Flip Vertical)), which you can find in ((Edit))-((Transform)), place the other duplicated layers.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Select ((Shape Tool)) and choose the curved triangle that comes with Photoshop.
Fill it in with any color.
With ((Free Transform)) (Ctrl + T), rotate the triangle.
Double click the triangle layer to apply ((Layer Styles)).
((Outer Glow)).
((Color Overlay)).
Accept the changes.
Ctrl + Click the triangle layer to activate the selection.
Then go to ((Select))-((Modify))-((Contract)) (2px).
Create a ((New Layer)).
Trace a radial gradient from white to transparent. Check out the results in the following image.
Create a ((New Layer)).
With ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), trace a circle as shown in the image below and draw a linear gradient as shown in the following image.
You can create an outer shadow to the icon, by simply creating a black circle in the background and applying ((Filter))-((Blur))-((Gaussean Blur))(Radio: 7px). Well, this is my result.
