Creating the Ying-Yang Symbol
Tutorial in Advanced, Designing, Drawing, Effects, Goodies, Various
This is a symbol that 99% of people know. It is original from the East and describes two opposite and complementary forces. Yang means “birth” and “day” and Ying means “death” and “night”.
Open a new document (400×400px with black background).
With ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), draw a circle (press and hold Alt + Shift, so that the circle is proportional).
Before we begin let me tell you that it is very important that you work with guides in this tutorial. In order to see them, you need to activate the rules first (Ctrl + R). Click, hold, and drag them into the document; the guides will appear then.
Place the guides exactly like I did in the following image. The ideas of using guides is to make it easier when you have to add a draw, or do something that requires exactitude, to the document.
Create a ((New Layer)).
With the circle selection active, fill it in with black.
Eliminate half of the black circle. Select ((Rectangular Marquee Tool)) and cut the circle vertically, then press Delete.
Create another ((New Layer)).
Draw another circle around the horizontal guides you placed, as shown in the following image.
Fill it in with black.
Do the same in the inferior part of the symbol but, this time, fill it in with white.
Create another ((New Layer)).
Again, make a selection bigger than the circle and go to ((Edit))-((Stroke)).
Create a ((New Layer)).
Select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), ((Fixed Size)), Width: 20px, and Height: 20px. Once you click the document, a 20×20px circular selection will be created automatically. Place one above the other, fill one in with black, and the other one with white. Take a look at the image below.
Select all the layers, except for the one in the background and press Ctrl + E to unify them.
This is my result.
You can still apply more effects and make it look more professional. In this case, I used ((Bevel and Emboss)) and ((Gradient Overlay)).
