Creating an Icon with a Thermometer
Tutorial in Advanced, Designing, Drawing, Various, Web
I will explain you how to create a great icon with a thermometer. I must confess I had a real good time, and I was very surprised when I saw the result.
Open a new document (450×450px and transparent background).
Fill it in with color #bdbfbe.
Create a ((new layer)).
Then with ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), draw a circle as the one you you see in the image below and fill it in with white.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Select ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), ((Radius)): 40px and draw a vertical rectangle to complete the thermometer figure.
Press Ctrl + E to unify the layers.
Double click the layer to go to ((Blending Options)).
((Drop Shadow)).
((Inner Glow)).
((Gradient Overlay)). For the gradient, use the following colors: #f4f4f4 and #c4c6c5.
((Stroke)).
After applying those ((Layer Styles)) it will look like this.
Create a ((New Layer)) and repeat he first steps but, this time, make the thermometer smaller.
Fill it in with red.
Go to ((Blending Options)).
((Inner Glow)).
((Stroke)).
Accept the changes. It should look like this.
Create a ((New Layer)).
In the following two seteps, you will draw the reflections. Select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)) and draw a circumference in the superior part of the thermometer. With ((Gradient Tool)), apply a gradient from white to transparent. Observe the following image.
Then with ((Pen Tool)), draw in the lower part of the thermometer another reflection. Enlarge the following image so that you clearly see what I’m talking about.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Choose white as the main color.
With ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), draw the thermometer values.
Finally, draw a frame so that it totally looks like an icon.
In a ((new layer)), draw a curved rectangle.
Copy ((Layer Styles)) of the first thermometer and paste it in the frame.
Ready!
