There are now 3 tutorials in Design Owners with the Apple theme. It’s been a long time since I published the last Apple-themed wallpaper, so I was thinking about adding a new one one of these days, and it is today! We will learn to create another Apple wallpaper. It will be necessary for you to have the Adobe Illustrator CS2 installed.

Open a new document, 1024×768px, and transparent background.

Fill it in color #C3823E.

Apply ((Filter))-((Noise))-((Add Noise)).

Then ((Filter))-((Blur))-((Motion Blur)).

Press Ctrl + T to activate ((Free Transform)) and extend the background to the left and the to the right.

Double click the layer to open ((Layer Styles)) and apply ((Gradient Overlay)).

Accept the changes.

Before going on with the next step, you will have to download the file Apple.ai that has the shape and colors of “the Apple”.

Once you have downloaded it, open it in Adobe Illustrator.

Select the entire apple and press Ctrl + C to copy it.

Go back to the Photoshop document.

Press Ctrl + V and you will see a pop up that asks you to choose the type of paste. Choose “Pixels”.

Then select ((Polygonal Lasso Tool)) and trace the apple leave (as shown in the image below), right click the selection and choose ((Layer Via Cut)). You will cut, copy, and paste the selection into a new layer.

The apple and the leaf will be in separated layers.

Double click the apple layer to open ((Layer Styles)) and apply ((Stroke)). The colors you will use for this gradient: #B4B4B4 and #FFFFFF.

Accept the changes.

Move the leaf a few pixels upwards so that it’s not very close to the apple.

This time I bring to you a tutorial that is ideal for Halloween. We will create a pumpkin with a horrifying face!

Open a new document, 512×512px, and black background.

With ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), create a circular selection in the center of the document and fill it in with white.

Then go to ((Layer))-((Layer Style))-((Blending Options)).

Click OK.

Now create a ((new layer)). Ctrl + Click the head selection and activate it.

Go to the ((new layer)) and then go to ((Select))-((Modify))-((Contract)) (Radius: 8px).

Fill in the new selection with white. Take a look at the following image to see how it should look.

Reduce the ((Fill)) to 0%. Then ((Layer))((Layer Style))((Stroke)).

Does it look like this? Keep going!

Create a ((new layer)).

With ((Pen Tool)), draw the eye just like it’s shown in the following image and fill it in with white.

To create the right eye, duplicate the layer and transform it. ((Edit))((Transform))((Flip Horizontal)).

In the new layers, create the nose and the mouth. I recommend you to use ((Pen Tool))

Stand in the first eye layer you created and in ((Layer Style)), apply ((Gradient Overlay)).

Copy the ((Layer Styles)) In the other layers. Stand in the layer you applied ((Gradient Overlay)) to, right click, and choose((Copy Layer Style)). Go to the layer you want to apply the same effect to, and choose ((Paste Layer Style)).

Don’t worry, but it should look like this hahaha.

You just need to create a reflection.

Create a ((new layer)).

Create a circular selection in the superior part of the head and fill it in with white.

Finally, double click the layer and, in the ((Blending Options)), choose ((Gradient Overlay)) (white to transparent).

Happy Halloween!

This is one of the cases that prove that you can create pretty cool stuff with the simplest Photoshop tools. These are ((Single Row Marquee Tool)) and ((Single Column Marquee Tool)). To the end of the tutorial you will have a beautiful “Scottish” sheet created with the image colors.

Open the image.

Duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J).

In the duplicated layer, select ((Single Marquee Tool)) (pointed with a red arrow) with Feather: 0px somewhere in the document. As you will see in the image below, I placed the selection where there are more colors. For those who understand it better, we are selecting a Pixel from the image, vertically.

Press Ctrl + C ((copy)) and Ctrl + V to ((paste)) the selection in a different layer.

Then Ctrl + T to activate ((Free Transform)). Enlarge it towards both right and left sides. In the image below I stretched only the left side.

Now do it from the right so that the document is completed.

Click the eye next to the layer to merge it invisible. We will not work on it.

Repeat the previous steps with ((Single Row Marquee Tool)).

I will explain you anyway. Stand in the duplicated layer and, with ((Single Row Marquee Tool)), place the selection where you see more colors. Press Ctrl + C ((copy)) and Ctrl + V to ((paste)) the selection in another layer.

Then Ctrl + T ((Free Transform)), stretch the selection upwards and downwards until you complete the entire document with the transformation, as shown in the following image.

Merge the layer you previously applied ((Single Marquee Tool)) visible (click the eye). Reduce the ((opacity)) to 50%. The most important part of the tutorial is done, you will have a “Scottish” texture with the most relevant colors of the original image.

Select the duplicated layer and place it in front of the others. Press Ctrl + T (((Free Transform))) and reduce the image pressing and holding Alt + Shift. (Proportionally from the center).

Double click the image layer to open the ((Blending Options)) window.

Select and modify ((Drop Shadow)) to give a shade to the image. Apply the values that appear in the following image.

To begin, open a new document, 400×400px, and transparent background.

Let’s create the sky. Select the ((gradient tool)) and, from the color palette, choose 6dbede and 2f82co. You just need to trace the gradient from top to bottom with those colors until you get something like this.

Create a ((new layer)) and select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)) using the options that appear in the following image.

Now you need to create several circles with different sizes, keeping the ((Shift)) key pressed so that you unify them all.

Verify you have created the ((new layer)). Fill in the selection with white.

Then, apply some layer styles. ((Layer))-((Layer Style))-((Blending Options)).

You can modify the layer styles values depending on the cloud size.

Nowadays, the number of users of Windows Vista is increasing, and they are getting used to the new Windows design, named “Aero”. What we will do in this tutorial is to create the windows of the said operative system, including its transparent effect.

Open the image of a default Vista wallpaper. If you don’t have one, you can download it from Google.

Create a ((new layer)).

Select ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)) and, from the options bar, enter 5px of curvature radius. Draw the window and fill it in with black.

Change the layer style to ((Lighten)).

Now right click the layer and choose ((Blending Options)). Apply the following styles.

In ((Bevel and Emboss)), also select ((Contour)).

After applying those ((Layer Styles)), click Ok. Take a look at the following image to see the partial results.

Create a ((new layer)), select ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), and draw a rectangle. This time use a radius of 4px, and fill it in with black.

Press Ok. Our Windows Vista window is already designed.

We will use ((Rectangular Marquee Tool)). From the options bar, select ((Fixed Size)) with the same length and width: 160px-160px.

Click the document and notice how the selection you have marked appears.

Now go to ((Edit))-((Copy)) (Ctrl + C), ((File))-((New)), Ctrl + N, and, when you are in the new document, press Ctrl + V (Paste).

Then, ((Filter))-((Other))-((Offset)). You will find the values in the following image.

Save the pattern. ((Edit))-((Define Pattern)).

To try the pattern, create a new document, 640×480px, and transparent background. Fill in the layer with white and double click it. The ((Blending Options)) window will be opened. Select ((Pattern Overlay)) and choose the one you just created which is generally located in the bottom. Click Ok.

We will create great, big spotlights focused in a point, which means we will rotate and give perspective to the spotlights.

Create a new document, 800×450px, and black background.

Create a ((new layer)).

Apply a linear gradient from side to side using 3 or 4 colors, and reduce the ((opacity)) to 25%.

Create another ((new layer)).

With ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), create a white circle with the size that appears below. Duplicate the layers until you create a row consisting in 8 circles, divided in 4.

Select all the lights you just created and rasterize them until you have only one layer.

Now apply some detains to the left and right areas of the lights. Duplicate the light layers 2 times, place the first one to the lefts and the other one to the right as shown in the image below. These 2 layers, place them below the first one. Select ((Erase Tool)) and erase the central area of the 2 duplicated layers, just leave the leftovers. Then reduce the ((opacity)) to 10%.

Duplicate the first layer (the one you can 100% see) and place it below. With ((Erase Tool)), hardness: 0%, erase to generate a reflection effect.

Duplicate the visible layer, reduce it with ((Free Transform)) or Ctrl + T and go to ((Edit))-((Transform))((Skew)). Look for the perspective you see below.

Duplicate the first layer, reduce it just like the other one, and apply ((Skew)) again. Take a look at the following image.

Duplicate the 2 layers you applied ((Skew)) to, and go to ((Edit))-((Transform))-((Flip Horizontal)).

Duplicate the lower right light and, with Ctrl + T, rotate it so that it looks like a reflection.

Duplicate the layer and go to ((Edit))((Transform))((Flip Vertical)).

Let’s make the reflections look more real. With ((Erase Tool)), hardness: 0%, and erase the ower parts of the reflections.

Stand in the first layer, the lights that are in front of us, and go to ((Layer))-((Layer Style))-((Outer Glow)).

Result:

Very good!!! You are done with this great tutorial. Now you can add a graphic, or an image in the center pf the spotlights.

Create a new document, 500×500, and transparent background.

Now we will create the typical texture of the poker tables.

Fill the background with color 21af01.

Go to ((Filter))-((Noise))-((Add Noise)). Enter the value that appears in the following image.

Then select ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)) and draw a card with a curve of 6px.

Apply ((Layer))-((Layer Style))-((Stroke)) and follow the values that you see in the following image. Use color grey.

Now with ((text tool)) write the letter “A” of Ace with the font Times New Roman, Regular, Size: 30px and color red. Place this layer in the left superior part of the card.

Then duplicate it a and press Ctrl + T to activate ((Free Transform)) and, standing outside the corners, rotate it 180º. Place it in the inferior area of the card.

Create a ((new layer)). Choose red as the foreground color.

Select ((Shape Tool)) and click the arrow in order to unfold the drop down list, select the heart, and draw it in the card. Do the same you did in the previous step (duplicate, rotate, and locate).

Remember you also have to place a bigger heart in the center of the card.

Now ((Filter))((Render))((Lighting Effects)). You will see the values below.

The most important part (or, as I would call it, the “trick”) of the tutorial is the following: press Ctrl + Alt + up or down arrow as many times as it takes to find the desired depth. Done! Another tutorial, very easy and with amazing results.

This is a tutorial which I personally like very much and I want to share it with you. The coolest thing about it is that it’s very easy!!!

Open a new document, 400×400px, and white background.

With ((brush tool)), select the spray ((Brush)) that I enabled for you to download. If you don’t know how to install it, consult the tutorial “Installing ((Brushes)) in Photoshop”.

Paint with 4 different colors: blue, red, green, and a soft magenta. In the image below, you clearly will see what you need to do. You can do it your way, of course ; ).

Create a new layer.

Now with ((Rectangular Marquee Tool)), draw a white rectangle and fill it in with. Press Ctr + T to activate ((Free Transform)), and rotate the rectangle, 50º, approx.

Write the Flyer title with the font “Alien Encounters”, which I enabled for you to download it. To this text, apply some ((Layer Styles)), so go to ((Layer))-((Layer Style))-((Blending Options)).

After doing the last step, the flyer will be ready.
