Wooden Planks
Tutorial in Basics, Drawing, Effects, Goodies, Web
For those who have never used the filter ((Liquify)), I recommend you (I even force you) to read this tutorial. You will create some planks with a very realistic result. I hope you like and enjoy it.
Open a new document, 800×600px, and white background.
Select ((Gradient Tool)) and go to the gradient editor. Choose “Silver” (default) and follow the parameters that appear below.
Now trace a linear gradient so that it looks like the following image.
Desaturate the image. ((Image))-((Adjustments))-((Desaturate)).
Create a ((New Layer)).
Fill it in with color #ec9700.
Change the layer style to ((Soft Light)).
Stand in the gradient’s layer and, with ((Dodge Tool)) and using the same values that appear in the options bar, eliminate the dark areas.
Here comes the cool part.
Standing in the gradient’s layer, go to ((Filter))-((Liquify)). Choose ((Twirl Clockwise Tool)) (Brush Size: 80, Brush Density: 100, Brush Pressure: 88, Brush Rate:60). Once you have done this, create the characteristic turns and shapes of wood.
Accept the changes.
Now go to ((Filter))-((Noise))-((Add Noise)).
Create a ((New Layer)).
Choose black as foreground color.
Select ((Line Tool)) and trace 5 vertical lines, 3px.
Double click the layer to go to ((Layer Styles)) and apply ((Outer Glow)).
Accept the changes.
Finally, change the layer style to ((Soft Light)).
As final option, you can apply some ((Noise)) to the lines.
This is my final result.
