Text with a Blurry Reflection

Tutorial in Basics, Effects, In Text, Web

On previous tutorials I’ve showed you how to create reflections in a text. Today I want to show you how to add a blurry effect to the said reflection. It’s very simple and easy. in order to create the effect, we will use the ((Gaussean Blur)).

Open a new document (500×300px and transparent background).

Fill it in with #47484a.

Select white color, the font Tahoma with the values that appear below, and then write the text.

Stand in the layer and go to ((Layer))-((Layer Style))-((Drop Shadow)).

Duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J).

Place the duplicated text below the original one.

Now go to ((Edit))-((Transform))-((Flip Vertical)).

Right click the duplicated layer’s name and choose ((Convert to Smart Object)) from the drop down menu.

Right click the layer and select ((Rasterize Layer)).

Reduce the ((opacity)) to 30%.

Go to menu ((Filter))-((Blur))-((Gaussean Blur)). Radius: 1,5px.

Create a ((New Layer Mask)) by clicking the button that appears pointed with a red arrow, in the following image.

Press D to reset the color palette to black and white.

Finally, stand in the Layer Mask you created and trace a vertical gradient over the text as seen on the following image in order to create the effect.

This is my result. It’s simple but it can be used in future designs.
