Tutorial in Basics, Designing, Drawing, Web
I was checking out the Fox News website the other day and I thought it would be cool to recreate its well know logotype. The following techniques will be useful when it comes to creating business logos.
Open a new document (175×275px and white background).
Create a ((New Layer)).
With ((Rectangle Tool)), draw the three rectangles you see below, each one in a different layer. The colors you will use will be: #003d6a and #3684be.
Double click the superior rectangle layer to apply the ((Layer Styles)).
((Gradient Overlay)). Use the following colors: #8c0202, #dc0303, and #8c0202.
Stand in the inferior rectangle and double click it so that you gon to ((Layer Styles)) and apply ((Gradient Overlay)). Use the same colors you used before.
Apply ((Layer Styles)) to the middle rectangle.
((Gradient Overlay)). use these colors: #003d6a and #4084b6.
After applying these ((Layer Styles)), you will get this partial result.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Select ((Polygonal Lazo Tool)) and draw the shape you see in the following image.

Double click the layer to go to ((Layer Styles)).
((Gradient Overlay)). Use the following colors: #123f62 and #021c2f.
You will have the following result.
Create another ((New Layer)).
With ((Polygonal Lazo Tool)), draw the shapes you see below and fill them in with white.
Reduce the ((opacity)) to 30%.
Select ((Erase Tool)), opacity: 50% and flow: 40%. With those values, erase the superior areas of the lights. Take a look at the results in the following image.
Now duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J) and go to ((Edit))-((Transform))-((Flip Horizontal)).
Place the layer to the right side of the logotype.
Finally, write the text using Verdana Bold.
Apply the following ((Layer Styles)) to each text layer.
((Drop Shadow)).
((Gradient Overlay)).
Once you apply these ((Layer Styles)) to the texts, you will see this final result:
