Drawing a Color Palette

Tutorial in Basics, Designing, Drawing

We will create a color palette with an interesting range of colors, using real brushes. It is an entertaining tutorial, since you will only need to play with some brushes and colors.

Open a new document, 450×400px, and white background.

Select ((Pen Tool)) to draw the palette.

Press Ctrl + Enter to transform the trace into selection.

Create a ((New Layer)).

Fill in the palette selection with color #e6d29b.

Now with ((Burn Tool)), paint some marks and shadows on the palette. Play with ((Exposure)), brush sizes, and vary with ((Shadows)) and ((Midtones)). This is my result.

Double click the layer to open the ((Layer Styles)) window and apply ((Drop Shadow)).

Then apply ((Drop Shadow)) you will get this result.

Then select ((Brush Tool)) and choose one of the ((Thick Heavy Brushes)).

Here comes the cool part.

With the brush types I indicated, paint the palette using different types, sizes, opacity, and so on. It’s all about playing and having fun.

After a few minutes I got this result.

Finally, choose ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), draw a small oval in the central left side of the palette and press delete.

This is the final result! I hope you liked it.
