Creating Folder Icon
Today I’m going to show you how to create a folder icon in Photoshop. It has a formal design and the most important detail is that you won’t even click on ((Pen Tool)).
Open a new document (500×500px transparent background).
Choose color #183940 as primary color and #2c5a62 as secondary.
With ((Gradient Tool)), linear, choose the colors I showed you and trace a linear gradient, vertically.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Choose #ebe4ac as the main color.
Select ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), radius: 10px, and draw a rectangle as the one shown before.
Duplicate this layer (Ctrl + J) and place it below the original one.
Double click the duplicated layer so that you change modify ((Color Overlay)).
Now go to ((Edit))-((Transform))-((Skew)) and move the superior sliders towards the right. Take a look at the image below.
Do not press Enter yet.
Right click the selection and choose ((Free Transform)). Then reduce the height a little bit.
Now stand in the original layer, press Ctrl + T to activate ((Free Transform)), and right click the selection. This time, choose ((Warp)).
Very softly, press from the middle of the sides; drag the left one towards outside, and the right one towards inside. In the image below, I showed you with a red circle where you have to drag.
Press Enter.
Double click the layer to edit ((Blending Options)).
((Drop Shadow)).
((Gradient Overlay)).
Save the changes.
Now, let’s create a paper inside the folder.
Duplicate the inferior layer (Ctrl + J) and place it in the middle of the other two layers.
In the duplicated layer, go to ((Blending Options)), select ((Color Overlay)) and choose white color.
Then select ((Drop Shadow)) and enter the following values.
Press Ctrl + T to activate ((Free Transform)) and reduce its size. When you do it, press and hold Shift so that it’s reduced proportionally.
Press Enter to confirm.
Finally, write the folder’s title.
Choose #e8af00 as the main color.
Select the font Verdana and write the text.
Finally, standing in the text layer, go to ((Layer))-((Layer Style))-((Inner Shadow)). These are the values you need to use:
Blend Mode: Soft Light.
Color: Black.
Angle: 120ยบ
Distance: 2.
Choke: 0.
Size:1.
Save the changes and you’ll be done. You folder icon is ready.
