Creating a Wooden Frame for a Photograph
Tutorial in Basics, Effects, In Photos, Various
In this Photoshop you will create a wooden frame by means of a simple technique, a wooden frame for a photograph. We will use a wood ((pattern)) and a ((Layer Mask)).
Open the image you will apply the frame to.
Duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J).
Now re size the document without touching the image size.
Go to ((Image))-((Canvas Size)). Take a look at the values in the I entered below. Make sure the ((Relative)) option is check-marked.
Fill in the layer with a wooden texture.
Create a ((New Layer)) and then go to ((Edit))-((Fill)) or simply press Shift + F5. From the window that will appear in ((Use)), select ((Pattern)) and below this texture, the texture that comes by default in Photoshop, named ((Wood)).
Ctrl + Click the layer to activate the selection.
Then invert the selection. ((Select))-((Invert)).
Once the selection is inverted, inside the ((Layers)) palette, click ((Add vector mask)).
Then you will notice that the only area that is visible in the wood texture layer, is the area you marked with the selection; where the frame will be. Take a look at the image below.
Deselect (Ctrl + D).
Double click the wood texture. The ((Blending Options)) window will pop up. Then go to ((Bevel and Emboss)).
It should look like this.
Now go to ((Blending Options)), check-mark ((Color Overlay)), apply the following values.
After changing the color, don’t forget to change the layer style to ((Color Burn)).
You can also reduce the ((Opacity)) so that the frame doesn’t look this dark. The other option is choosing a light color.
This will be our final result.
