Creating a Tile Image

Tutorial in Basics, Effects, Various

This is a simple tutorial. It’s about creating tiles on an image.

To begin, open the image.

We first have to activate the ((rules)) (Ctrl + R)
Now go to ((View)) > ((Show)) > ((Grid)).
Observe that it should look like this.

Select the ((marquee tool)) and create four tiles.
On the image below we select the first tile.

We click ((Layer)) > ((New)) > ((Layer Via Cut)). We will notice that on the new layer the rectangle that we had selected has been cut.

Now we must do the same but with three more ((layers)). It’s important that we apply the ((Layer Via Cut)) when these are above the background layer.

We will not be using the grids anymore, so we must deactivate them by going to ((View)) > ((Show)) > ((Grids)) menu.

We will select ((Layer))1 and go to ((Layer)) > ((Layer Styles)) > ((Blending Options)) and ((Bevel and Emboss)). The only thing we will do is modify the size (9 px) as shown in the image below.

Finally, we will repeat the same step on the remaining three tiles. In order to quicken the application of the effect, it is recommended to right-click the name of the ((Layer)) you have recently applied the effect to, look for ((Copy Layer Style)), and then go back to the other three ((layers)), right-click the name of the ((layer)) and select ((Past Layer Style)).

If you have correctly followed the steps, you should see the following result.
