Creating a Pin with the English Flag

Who haven’t worn a pin at least one time? In back bags, shirts, and so on. This is a classic fashion item and that’s why today I bring this tutorial to you. You will be able to create one eith you favorite flag or any other image. You will also be able to use it as a PNG icon.

Open a new document, 400×400p, and white background.

Create a ((New Layer)).

Select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)) and draw a circle as the one that appears below. You can use Alt + Shift in order for the selection to grow proportionally from the center.

Fill it in with black.

Double click the circle layer to apply ((Layer Styles)).

((Bevel and Emboss)).

((Bevel and Emboss)) – ((Contour)).

((Gradient Overlay)). Use these colors: #8f8f8f, #ffffff, and #ffffff.

Accept the changes and see this result.

Create a ((New Layer)).

Create another circular selection as the one you see below, pressing and holding Alt + Shift.

Fill it in with black.

Open the England flag. You can download it by clicking HERE.

Press Ctrl + A to select it all.

Then Ctrl + C to copy it.

Go back to the original image.

Press Ctrl + V to paste it.

With ((Free Transform)) (Ctrl + T), reduce it and adapt it like this:

Ctrl + Click the layer to activate the selection.

Go to ((Select))-((Inverse)) to invert the selection.

Stand in the flag layer and press delete.

Double click the flag’s layer to open ((Layer Styles)) and apply ((Inner Shadow)).

Accept the changes.

Now create the Pattern.

Open a new document, 100×100px, and white background.

Select ((Rectangular Marquee Tool)) to trace a selection that occupies half the document (horizontally) and fill it in with black.

Deselect (Ctrl + D).

Save the Pattern. ((Edit))-((Define Pattern)).

Ctrl + Click the black circle, the bigger one, to activate the selection.

Create a ((New Layer)).

Go back to the original document and go to ((Layer))-((New Fill Layer))-((Pattern…)).

Accept the first window that pops up, in the second one, select the pattern you have saved and select 3 inĀ  ((Scale)).

Accept the changes.

To the ((New Fill Layer)), change the layer style to ((Overlay)) and reduce the ((Opacity)) to 20%.

Ctrl + Click the second black circle you created to activate the selection.

Create a ((New Layer)) and bring it to the front.

Select ((Brush Tool)), big size (330px), and ((Hardness)), 0%, to paint some details of shines in the superior and inferior areas of the selection. Take a look at the following image.

I guess you noticed in the image above that there’s too much brightness. That’s why I reduced the ((Opacity)) to 60%.

Well, in the following image you will be able to see the final result.
