Creating a Magnifying Glass

We will create a magnifying glass with a clean design, which can be used as an icon. Feel free to browse on our search engine; we have a wide variety of tutorials for you to create icons.


Open a new document 300×300px (and transparent background).

Fill it in with #2e8fc0.

Create a ((New Layer)) and, wth ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), draw a circle on the new layer. Fill it in with white.

Ctrl + Click the layer to activate the selection.

With ((Gradient Tool)), trace a vertical linear gradient using the following colors: #ECF1EF y #C5C8C0

Double-click the layer to go to ((Blending Options)).

((Inner Shadow)).

After you apply ((Inner Shadow)), it will look like this.

Creae another ((New Layer)) and draw white circle but, this time, a bit smaller that the previous one.

Double-click the layer s you go to ((Blending Options)).

((Gradient Overlay)). Use the following colors: #2e6fbd y #50a4f3.

It will look like this.

Press D to reset the colors of the color palette.

Create a ((New Layer)), with ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)) draw an oval selection as shown below and with ((Gradient Tool)) trace a gradient from top to bottom.

Change the layer style to ((Screen)).

Create another ((New Layer)).

Selectn ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), ((Radius)): 10px. With the said values, draw the handle of the glass.

Double-click the layer. On ((Blending Options)), apply:

((Bevel and Emboss)).

((Gradient Overlay)). Use the following colors: #489bfd y #3167e0.
