Creating a Flag Icon
Tutorial in Basics, Designing, Drawing, Web
Let me introduce to you a simple way of creating flag icons in a few minutes. We will use ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), ((Spherize)), ((Gradient Tool)), ((opacity)), and ((Brush Tool)).
Open a new document, 640×480px, and white background.
Place the flag into the document.
Now select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)) and trace a circle as the one you see below.
Right click the selection and choose ((Layer Via Cut)).
Eliminate the flag layer and leave the one you cut.
It will look like this.
With the selection active, go to ((Filter))-((Distort))-((Spherize)). Amount: 100%, Normal.
Don’t deselect!
With the selection active, choose ((Gradient Tool)) and trace a gradient using the colors #838383 and #ffffff
Change the gradient’s layer style to ((Multiply)).
Create a ((New Layer)).
Choose white as the foreground color.
Select ((Brush Tool)), 164px, ((Hardness)): 0% , then paint a small reflection in the left center of the flag.
Reduce the ((Opacity)) to 75% .
Done!
