Tutorial in Basics, Designing, Drawing, Web

We will create a CD Rom icon. We will be able to use it as a button for your website, as well as for your computer desktop.

Open a new document (800×600px and white background).

Create a ((new layer)).

Select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)), ((Fixed Size)), and enter these values: ((Weight)): 354px – ((Height)): 354px. Now simply click the document. By doing this, a circular selection will automatically be created.

Fill in the circle with: #e3f2ff.

Modify the value of ((Pixed Size)): ((Weight)): 60px – ((Height)): 60px. Then draw the circular selection in the center of the document. Go to the CD layer and press ((Delete)).

Create a ((new layer)).

Select ((Shape Tool)) and look for the ((Shape)) in the menu. Choose the one that appears below. Draw it with color grey, just as it shows the following image.

Ctrl + Click the CD layer to activate the selection.

Select ((Polygonal Lazo Tool)), ((Intersect With Selection)). We will rceate some reflections on the CD. Take a look at the following image.

Create a ((new layer)) and place it in the middle of the CD and the small grey circle.

Once you have the new selection, trace a linear gradient with ((Gradient Tool)). Use color #788cba to transparent.

Repeat the gradient two more times.

Select all the layers, except for the background ones, and press Ctrl + E in order to unify all the layers.

Select ((Crop Tool)) and press Ctrl + T to activate ((Free Transform)). Take a look at the following image and you will fin the values you need to use; they are located on a red remark.

Create another ((new layer)) and trace the shade using ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)).

Our icon is ready!
