Creating a Banner Stained or Dirty
Tutorial in Basics, Drawing, Effects, Goodies, Web
dirtyThis tutorial will show you how to create a dirty or stained banner, which can be used in publicity or in websites. The process is quite simple; you will need to download a brush from the link I enabled in order to create the effects. Shall we begin?
Open a new document (500×500px).
Fill it in with color #ffe6e6.
Create a ((New Layer)).
With ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), radius 5px, draw a rectangle as the one that appears below, using the same colors of the background, and leaving the remaining spaces to create the effects.
Double click the layer to create ((Layer Styles)), ((Stroke)).
Save the changes, it should look like this.
In a ((New Layer)), draw a black rectangle as the one that appears below but, this time, fill it in with black.
Select both layers and press Ctrl + T to activate ((Free Transform)). Rotate the layer about -20º.In the following image there is a red arrow that indicates where you need to enter the precise rotation value.
Before going on, download this BRUSH.
Install the Brush. As you will see, the brushes are stains, splashes, and so on.
Choose black as the main color.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Select one of the brushes you downloaded (Size: 200-220px) and apply it in the top right corner of the document.
As you could see in the previous image, there’s a part of the brush that appears inside the banner. You must eliminate that part. So Ctrl + Click the banner layer to activate the selection, then stand in the layer you applied the brush in, and press delete.
Now simply play and try different combinations of the new brushes on the borders of the banner. Don’t forget you must apply the step in a different layer.
You can also try staining the banner with the same background color.
Now work with a different brush. Download it from here.
As you can see, it has really cool star rays which you will be able to apply in your document.
Create another ((New Layer)).
Install the new brushes and play with them all around the banner, try to make the stars look like they are coming out from the banner, as you can see below.
Apply the text (Arial Black) and rotate it about -20º.
Not even the text can get rid of the stains and the splashes! ; ). Create a ((New Layer)) and, with the first brush, paint some stains, if you want, in the text.
This is the final result.
