Colorful Neon Text

Tutorial in Basics, Effects, In Text

This time you will learn to create a colorful neon text effect. We will apply some ((Layer Styles)) in order to get the desired results. We then will create an interesting background.

Open a new document (600×300px and black background).

Download the OptimusPrinceps font by clicking here.

Duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J) and go to ((Filter))-((Blur))-((Gaussean Blur)). Photoshop will ask you if you want to rasterize the text, click yes.

Go to  ((Layer))-((Layer Style))-((Blending Options)).

((Outer Glow)).

((Inner Glow)).

I used these colors: #0a00b2 / #ff0000 / #fffc00.

The text will look like this.

Rasterize the text.

Change the background layer color to white.

Standing in the background layer, go to ((Filter))-((Render))-((Lighting Effects)). As you will see in the image below, I put 3 different lights. To create a new light, click the bulb that appears below and drag it inside. Then enter the values that appear below and, finally, change the color.

Save the changes and this will be the result.

The background is too bright. Create a ((New Layer)) and place it between the text and the background layer. Fill it in with black and change the layer style to ((Soft Light)).

This is the final result.
