Colored Paper Labels

Tutorial in Basics, Designing, Drawing, Web

This is a great effect to apply in websites or design works. This tutorial is about creating colored paper labels. The key to create the effect will consist on using ((Penn Tool)), ((Brushes)), and a paper texture I will provide you with for free.

Open a new document (800×400px and black background).

Create a ((New Layer)).

With ((Rectangular Marquee Tool)), ((Fixed Size)), create a square (30×30px).

Fill it in with any color.

Then go to ((Edit))-((Define Brush Preset)). Assign a name to it and save it.

Eliminate the rectangle layer and create a ((Nueva capa)).

Select the brush you had saved.

Choose #bd2531 as the main color.

Now select ((Pen Tool)) and draw a line with small curves, something like what appears below.

Go to the Path window. Right click the trace name and choose ((Stroke Path)) from the drop down list.

Then, from the pop up window that will appear, select: Brush.

Repeat the previous steps with different lines and colors #cc4228, #cda418, #8e9c15, #3a852a, and #31814e.

IMPORTANT: All the lines must be in the same layer.

To create the “paper label” effect you need this texture.

Download it from here.

Press Ctrl + A to select it all and go to ((Edit))-((Copy)).

Go back to the menu ((Edit))-((Paste)). The texture must be over the other layers.

Ctrl + Click the layers to activate the selection.

Then ((Select))-((Inverse)) to invert the selection.

Press delete.

This could be one of the final results.

This one of the others.

Finally, change the labels layer mode to ((Overlay)).
