Button Bar with Neon Style Icons

Tutorial in Basics, Designing, Drawing, Web

Excelent button bar to use in your site. It’s about creating buttons to which we will apply not only their names, but we will also add some neon style icons.

Open a new document (650×500px and black background).

Create a ((New Layer)).

Select ((Rectangular Marquee Tool)), ((Fixed Size)), and 600×40px. Then, once you enter the values, click anywhere in the document so that the selection of the rectangle appears automatically.

Fill it in with white.

Double click the layer with the bar to apply ((Blending Options)).

((Gradient Overlay)). For the gradient, use the colors: #000000 and #111111.

((Stroke)).

Once you accepted the changes, you will have this result.

Ctrl + Click the layer to activate the selection.

Then select ((Rectangular Marquee Tool)), Style: Normal, and “Subtract From Selection”. Reduce half of the bar’s selection.

Create a ((New Layer)).

Fill it in with white and reduce the ((opacity)) to 5%.

Let’s create the titles to the buttons. I used the font Arial.

Leave some space between the titles so that you are able to apply the icon.

Create a ((New Layer)).

With ((Rounded Rectangle Tool)), Radius: 7, draw the icon’s background. Take a look at the following image.

Double click the layer. Apply the following ((Blending Options)).

((Drop Shadow)).

((Gradient Overlay)). Use these colors: #000000 and #464646.

It will look like this.

Press Ctrl + J to duplicate the layer and place it over the other titles of the bar.

In this particular tutorial, I used the default Photoshop icons.

You will, of course, place the icons in a ((New Layer)).

I selected from ((Shape Tool)) this icon and applied ((Outer Glow)).

This is how the complete bar will look.

Another result would be using ((Line Tool)) and ((Outer Glow)) to draw the button’s active area.
