Blue Christmas Wallpaper
Tutorial in Basics, Designing, Drawing
How fast 2008 went by! (I say the same every single year) We are so close of the 24h that I thought about this blue wallpaper, to vary and escape from the typical red Christmas. I will soon publish more Xmas tutorials so I hope you enjoy this one.
Open a new document, 800×600px, and transparent background.
Select ((Gradient Tool)) and trace a radial gradient as the one that appears below, using #3d51f7 and 1525a0.
Now let’s draw some mountains.
Select ((Pen Tool)) ans trace the contour of one of the mountains as seen below.
Press Ctrl + Enter to transform the trace into selection.
Create a ((New Layer)).
With ((Gradient Tool)), trace a linear gradient from top to bottom, with colors #a2acff and #4759e5.
Don’t deselect yet.
Go to ((Filter))-((Noise))-((Add Noise)).
Don’t deselect.
Go to ((Filter))-((Blur))-((Motion Blur)).
Deselect (Ctrl + D).
Duplicate the mountain layer (Ctrl + J).
Go to ((Edit))-((Transform))-((Flip Horizontal)) and see in the following image where I placed the duplicated mountain at.
Duplicate the layer again to apply different transformations.
You can deform them. ((Edit))-((Transform))-((Warp)).
Transform, deform, rotate. By doing all that, I got his result.
Remember the mountains in the front should be clearer that the back ones.
You will need to apply ((Layer Styles)), ((Inner Glow)). In the following step, I will show you how to add shadows to the back mountain.
Double click the layer to open the ((Layer Styles)) window.
((Inner Glow)).
Simply apply the same ((Inner Glow)) values, modifying the color in the different mountain layers.
Check out the result in the following image.
To order the layers, create a new group pressing Ctrl + G.
Select and drag all the layers into the new group.
Place a new group in the background layer.
Create a ((New Layer)) between the new group and the background layer.
Press D to reset the colors to black and white.
Fill in the new layer with black.
Now apply ((Filter))-((Noise))-((Add Noise)).
Change the layer style to ((Color Dodge)).
Then in the same layer, apply ((Image))-((Adjustments))-((Brightness/Contrast)).
Then press Ctrl + L to open the ((Levels)) window and edit it.
Before going on, download this BRUSH of Xmas trees and install it.
Create a ((New Layer)).
Choose white as the foreground color.
Once you have installed and selected the brush of the tree, paint the document. Take a look at the following image.
Double click the tree layer to open the ((Layer Styles)) window and apply ((Outer Glow)).
Choose black as the foreground color.
In a ((New Layer)) you can apply some detail, such as a shadow. Select ((Brush Tool)), rounded, hardness: 0%, ((opacity)): 20%, ((Flow)): 20% and paint below the Xmas tree.
Select ((Elliptical Marquee Tool)) and trace a circle as the one that appears below.
Go to ((Select))-((Modify))-((Feather)): 100px.
Fill it in with black.
If it is too dark, lower the opacity.
Deselect (Ctrl + D).
You can choose to add a text.
As you can See in the final image, I wrote “Merry Christmas” with the font St. Nicholas. You can download it for free by clicking HERE.
I hope you liked it.
